What is the Boardwalk on Oasis Class ships?
Updated March 2019
Anyone who is familiar with cruising will know that Royal Caribbean is renowned for offering many unique and family orientated activities. From surf simulators and rock-climbing walls to mini-golf and sports courts, there is always plenty to see and do on Royal Caribbean ships.
The Boardwalk
The Oasis Class ships, however, are in a different league. Comprising Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, and Symphony of the Seas, these magnificent ships have seven differently themed neighbourhoods onboard - each one with its own distinct atmosphere and range of amenities. The Boardwalk is one such area that is located at the aft (back) of the ship. Oasis Class ships are extra wide (8.5 metres wider than the Freedom Class ships) which has given Royal Caribbean the opportunity to design this unique ‘day at the seaside’ style area. It features an incredible AquaTheatre as well as two 43ft rock walls, and a hand-crafted traditional carousel estimated to have cost around $330k to make. The 50’s style décor lends itself to the family fun days of yesteryear and includes other authenticities such as a hall of mirrors and a slot machine fortune teller.
The AquaTheatre
The dramatic amphitheatre-style AquaTheater spans the stern of the ship and comes alive at night with high-diving performances, synchronized swimming, acrobatics, water ballet and water fountain shows, with jet sprays reaching a massive 20 metres high. The sound and lighting system is incredible and paired with the backdrop of the ocean, the performances are both moving and memorable.
Two 10 meter high dive platforms, a giant trampoline and a trapeze tower above the largest and deepest saltwater pool at sea, and there are two giant LED screens (one on each side of the stage) projecting background imagery as part of the show. During the day and occasional evenings, the Aquatheatre will show a movie for guests to enjoy a unique outdoor cinema experience. Scuba diving lessons are also held here which guests can sign up to on board.
Boardwalk Staterooms
If you fancy a balcony stateroom with a bit of a difference, it's possible to book one overlooking the Boardwalk. The rooms are the same size as the ocean facing rooms, but they are usually lower in price. There are also some Boardwalk-view staterooms available without a balcony.
AquaTheatre Suites
The ultimate suite experience is in an Aquatheatre suite. You have the luxurious combination of a front row seat to all the shows, as well as stunning views of the aft of the ship. Not to mention the opulence of the suite itself; an 823 square foot, two-bedroomed living area with a huge wraparound balcony of 772 square feet. Accommodating up to 8 guests, each will receive top-level suite benefits known as Star Class. These include the ultimate beverage package, complimentary speciality restaurants, complimentary VOOM (the fastest internet at sea) in-suite dining, 7-day spa thermal room access, bottled water, Nespresso coffee-maker service, and much more.

Although these vary from ship to ship, there are always options of quick bites and casual table service restaurants, as well as bars and somewhere to satisfy your sweet tooth.
