Why solo travellers choose to cruise with Riviera
While single cabins are now available on most cruise lines, large or small, there are certain aspects of a river cruise that makes the whole experience perfectly suited to solo travellers. The intimate atmosphere where you personally get to know the crew and other cruisers, the casual dining arrangements and the ease of getting from ship to shore are just some of the reasons why several of our customers have said that they prefer solo river travel.
Riviera Travel is an excellent river cruise line choice for single cruisers. We explain why…
No single supplements
Understandably, price is a real factor when choosing which solo travel holiday to embark on. While many cruise lines charge from 25% - 100% additional supplements for travelling solo, on most itineraries, Riviera do not charge extra. And with a transparent pricing promise, you can guarantee a fair price at any time of the year as the price you pay is always the lowest possible price regardless of booking early or late.
Transfers included
Convenient return journeys from your local airport or regional railway station are included so you don’t have to think about the additional cost or worry about travelling alone in a foreign country. Riviera only uses trusted operators.
Guided tours included
One of the benefits of river cruising with Riviera is not only do you get to visit several different destinations in one trip, but you also get to share the same experience with the people you meet along the way, making new friends and unforgettable memories together. Excursions are included in every port of call, so like transfers; you needn’t have to pay for extra excursions unless you wanted to roam independently. All tours are operated by Riviera so you can be sure of the quality as many of their Tour Managers have been with the company at least a decade.
Intimate atmosphere
The intimate nature of the river cruises makes for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere onboard. Riviera does not enforce seating policies so you have the freedom to dine with new people each night, the same people you’ve built bonds with throughout the journey or simply on your own if you prefer. Guest are allowed to wear whatever they feel comfortable in, though some guests enjoy dressing up formally for the welcome and gala dinners.
Be as alone or together as you wish
Chances are you won’t be the only solo cruiser onboard. On average, 4 – 6% of European river cruises are made up of single travellers. There is a solo travel forum on Riviera’s website where you can get in touch with other solo travellers ahead of the trip or alternatively Riviera can help put you in contact with other travellers while onboard. Of course, as a solo traveller it doesn’t mean that you are limited to spending time with other singles and the relaxed seating arrangements and tour excursions mean you can meet a whole host of different people. If you’re on holiday to get some much needed me-time, you’ll never be pressured into any social situations if that’s not what you wish.
Personalised service
With just 4 guests to any one crew member, Riviera are able to provide a very personalised service which we find solo travellers in particular may find most useful, especially when travelling on a river cruise for the first time. On all ships there is a 24/7 reception so there will always be someone available for any questions you may have.
